certBox.org is a platform for searching certificates and public keys (X.509 resp. PGP) on the Internet.
- How does certBox.org work?
The platform uses the services of the Secardeo certBox PKI Appliance for searching the installed certificate directories on the internet or in a local certificate store (certStore). You can search manually using a web browser or automatically using LDAP.
- Are the found certificates and public keys trustworthy?
The published CA certificates and LDAP directories are being validated. We do neither guarantee nor take liability for the contents, validity, trustworthiness or usability of found certificates or public keys.
- How can I search for certificates?
With certBox.org you can search manually using a web browser or automatically using LDAP.
- How can I search using a Web-Browser?
Enter the URL www.certbox.org and select the button "Search" to display the HTML search form. Then you have to enter a valid e-mail address and select, if you want to search for X.509 certificates or PGP keys.Before starting your first search you have to enter some random letters that are displayed on the page into a validation field. The found certificate may be downloaded as a .CER file or it may be imported as a vcard-contact directly in MS Outlook.
- How can I search automatically using an e-mail client?
Popular e-mail applications support an automated LDAP search for certificates. Configure your e-mail application according to your user guide with the address ldap://ldap.certbox.org and port 389. The search base is empty.
- Which client applications are supported by certBox.org?
MS Outlook 2000-2007, Mozilla Thunderbird, Adobe Acrobat 7-9, Lotus Notes, PGP 8.
- Which certificates may be found?
Search requests will be served locally or forwarded to publicly available certificate directories (PKI Repositories). For this, a repository list (RepList) is maintained which can be viewed on "PKI List".
- What will it cost?
This service is currently free of charge. The public access to certBox.org without a demo account is restricted to 10 search reqeusts per day.
- How can my own certificate be found?
You can upload your user certificate to the certBox, so other users may find it to encrypt messages to you.
- When do I have to register?
Organizations running a PKI may use a demo account which is installed after registering as a demo subscriber.
- What will the free demo account offer?
With the demo account you can explore the features of the Secardeo certBox. A demo account allows the publishing of up to 1000 X.509 certificates in an individual certStore on certBox.org. Using the demo account up to 100 searches may be performed per day by the registered organization. The demo account is free of charge for six months from the day of its setup.
- How do I get a demo account?
Click on "Demo Accoun" to enter the registration form. Please fill out and submit that form. After validating the data, the account will be anabled and you will be informed via e-mail.
